Rate: $300/hour

For private lessons, there are no minimums. I can work with you on every application or just your Common App essay. We can do one session or 50 (my personal record is 85 hours with one student.)

What’s Included?

Everything related and adjacent to writing. In addition to the Common App and supplemental essays, I’m fluent in schools that don’t use the Common App (such as Georgetown, UC, and UT schools). I also assist with résumés and Letters of Continued Interest.

Sample Schedule

These timelines can vary tremendously depending on when you begin/your budget/what type of draft you can produce on your own. The following is a loose example of how a student may decide to spend their time.

Brainstorming (Hour 1-4)
I’ll assign written homework and discuss topics with you in person. We’ll turn over stones that you never considered looking under in search of the richest and most original subject matter.

Outlines (Hour 4-6)
After picking two to three storylines, we’ll plot out the chronology of your essay. I’ll help you craft an emotional arc and a compelling self-reflection. We’ll find ways to showcase not only your personality but also the way your mind works.

Revising and finalizing (Hour 10-20)
We will restructure the story, find a better angle, decide which anecdotes to include—all leading up to the self-reflection. A Yale admissions officer advised that one-third of the essay should describe the past (something that’s happened to you), and the remaining two-thirds should reflect upon how that impacted your present self. This is a good (rough) guideline

Supplements (Hour 20+).
On average, 300-500 word supplemental essays take about 3 hours of lesson time. The short answers are much quicker. Depending on the selection of schools you are applying to, certain answers (or parts of answers) can be repurposed.
